Sports - Swimming

Question
I am interested in a youth swim team for my child; how do I go about finding information?
Website: www.sudburyswimteam.org

The Sudbury Swim Team is a competitive swim team open to the youth of Sudbury and surrounding towns. The team aspires to create an environment where the swimmers enjoy the experience of competitive swimming through improvement of their stroke and racing techniques, improved personal race times, appreciation of the team friendships and team spirit. To this end, the program is designed to maximize personal enjoyment and improvement. We hope that each swimmer will take full advantage of the team experience.

The Sudbury Youth Swim Team is open to swimmers age 7 and up who demonstrate proficiency in the freestyle, backstroke and the breaststroke. Children who are 6 years old are welcome to try out for the team but unless they are exceptionally strong swimmers, the team will most likely recommend waiting until they are 7 years old. All new swimmers are asked to attend a Coach's assessment prior to the beginning of the season at the Atkinson Pool to determine their readiness to participate on a competitive swim team. The assessment will involve the child demonstrating their swimming skills and having an opportunity to meet and talk with the coach. We will not accept swimmers who need basic swimming instruction.

Team Registration:
Each August we have an in-house registration period for current team members and their siblings. These will be mailed out in mid-August. This extends until October 1st. Applications for interested new swimmers will be available here on our website and at Brines Sporting Good Store and at Atkinson Pool beginning July 1-September 30th. Applications are due no later than October 1st.. New swimmers will be accepted officially on the team beginning on October 2nd and spots will be offered on a first come first served basis according to receipt of application and number of available open spots. Parents whose children are placed on a waiting list will be called and/or emailed to inform them of this status. Preference will be given to children from Sudbury and those children who were on the waitlist from the previous year. This information is posted in the quarterly recreation bulletin from the town of Sudbury as well as posted at the Atkinson Pool.

Team Size:
We have the capacity to serve 144 swimmers. This is the maximum number of swimmers the team can support given our pool and staffing resources. This allows for approximately +-30 children within each age category. Once the capacity is reached for each age group or the whole team , children will be placed on a waiting list

Sports - Youth

Question
How do I register my child for participation in sports league? I registered my child for soccer (baseball, basketball) but haven't heard anything.

The following is a listing of contacts for the various sports offerings ( this lisiting is also included in the Park & Recreation brochure that is mailed to all residents).
