Volunteering

The following are year-round volunteering opportunities that are open to participation for everyone in the community.

Meals on Wheels (Sudbury)

This was first established as a grassroots pilot project in 1971, with the intent to keep people independent in their homes by supplying daily hot nutritious meals. Today, they serve delicious and healthy meals every week to hundreds of local residents, thanks to their home delivery service. They assist those in need of short term (caregiver relief, recuperation, seasonal) or long term nutritional support. Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) currently has approximately 100 volunteers. A variety of volunteer positions are available at Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) including: Volunteer Delivery Driver, Volunteer Delivery Driver Helper, Kitchen Helper, Committee Volunteer, Office Volunteer, Board of Directors, and Wheels to Meals Volunteer.

The Food Pantry

Run in the lower level of Our Lady of Fatima Church, at 160 Concord Rd, this is a great 100% volunteer organization that operates year round. The Food Pantry is a member of the Greater Boston Food bank and a distribution site for the USDA food assistance program, generally serving 60-80 families each week. The Food Pantry could use help with registering clients, distributing food, stocking shelves, as well as promotion and fundraising. Supplies tend to run low in the summer when local people are traveling.

Sudbury Weed Eradication & Education Team (S.W.E.E.T.)

A wonderful non-profit organization with a mission to educate residents about harmful invasive plants in the area. This organization offers a fantastic opportunity to help protect our environment here in Sudbury. Volunteers are needed for removal and replacement of invasive species as well as outreach, public presentation and displays. Plant identification photos and additional information about volunteering can be found on their Facebook page.

Metro West Free Medical Program

Each Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Congregation Beth El hosts dozens of volunteers who offer free health care services to our neighbors in need at the Metro West Free Medical Program. Licensed physicians, nurses, social workers, and other volunteers transform the Beth El sanctuary into a free medical program, offering general medical and specialty care to more than 1500 residents of Metrowest who lack health insurance, each year. They are proud to be the first synagogue-based free medical program in the U.S.
