{"id":736,"date":"2017-02-22T11:03:15","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T16:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/boardofhealth\/?p=736"},"modified":"2017-04-05T15:01:51","modified_gmt":"2017-04-05T19:01:51","slug":"board-of-health-proposes-changes-to-tobacco-regulations","status":"public-archive","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/boardofhealth\/2017\/02\/22\/board-of-health-proposes-changes-to-tobacco-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"Board of Health Proposes Changes to Tobacco Regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an effort to improve the health of residents, particularly among adolescents 15 \u2013 17,&nbsp;increase lifespan, and save lives,&nbsp; the Sudbury Board of Health is proposing tobacco regulation changes.&nbsp; The following is a summary of the changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Modifying the definitions of tobacco products (to capture e-cigarettes, vaporization, and aerosolization), flavored tobacco, minors, and smoke;<\/li>\n<li>Prohibiting e-cigarettes wherever smoking is prohibited;<\/li>\n<li>Raising the age of tobacco sales to minors from 19 years to 21 years (consistent with all surrounding towns);<\/li>\n<li>Capping the number of permits to the number already issued (10) and \u201cretiring the permit\u201d when the establishment closes;<\/li>\n<li>Prohibiting tobacco sales within 500 ft schools;<\/li>\n<li>Mandatory posting of cessation information at point of sale;<\/li>\n<li>Prohibiting the sale of single cigars and raising the minimum price of multi-packs to $5.00;<\/li>\n<li>Limiting the sale of flavored tobacco products to smoking bars and adult only stores;<\/li>\n<li>Modifying the enforcement section to increase penalties for frequent violators<\/li>\n<li>Prohibiting smoking in town owned vehicles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A public hearing with be held on Tuesday, March 14th, 2017 at 8:00pm at the Silva Room, Flynn Building, 278 Old Sudbury Road.
