04 - What is the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail?
It is a proposed multi-use recreational trail and alternative transportation corridor along the former Lowell Secondary railroad line. This 25-mile Lowell-to-Framingham rail line opened in 1871 and operated for over 100 years. The right of way passes through Lowell, Chelmsford, Westford, Carlisle, Acton, Concord, Sudbury and Framingham. The name “Bruce Freeman” was chosen for the northernmost seven miles of the trail, and towns further south have generally adopted the same name for their sections of the trail.© Copyright 2024 Town of Sudbury; some rights reserved.
