{"id":1879,"date":"2022-05-07T16:12:54","date_gmt":"2022-05-07T20:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/?p=1879"},"modified":"2022-05-07T22:53:46","modified_gmt":"2022-05-08T02:53:46","slug":"cod-voiced-support-for-articles-at-town-meeting","status":"public-archive","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/2022\/05\/07\/cod-voiced-support-for-articles-at-town-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"COD Voiced Support for Articles at Town Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With its roots in the inception of the country, Sudbury held Annual Town meeting in about nine hour spanning three evenings.&nbsp; Of the 58 articles on the warrant, the COD chose to endorse eight.&nbsp; Chair, Kay Bell, spoke on behalf of the commission.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Passed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Modest funding for continuing Go Sudbury! Taxi and Uber Transportation Programs and for purchasing Audio-Visual Equipment for the soon-to-be-built Fairbank Community Center was approved.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for an Open Space and Recreation Plan and Athletic Fields Needs Assessment was also approved.&nbsp; Ms. Bell suggested that the section of the Transition Plan of July 2021 that covers these assets could be useful to that analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Related to the Transition Plan &#8211; the project to replace aged and con-compliant classroom sinks at Noyes Elementary School and funds to launch an ADA Transition Plan effort by forming a working group both passed<\/p>\n<p>The citizen petition to employ a sustainability director was met with vigorous debate.&nbsp; Questions of jurisdiction and projected cost savings were posed.&nbsp; Explanations of the value and urgency of having such a director were offered.&nbsp; With all the debate Ms. Bell was not recognized to speak on this article.&nbsp; In the end, it passed with a large majority.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Failed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Funds to employ an on-call architectural engineer to hasten building projects to address ADA non-compliant spaces and to work on other Town building modifications failed.<\/p>\n<p>There were two articles for hiring a land use consultant to study the whole Liberty Ledge\/Sewataro property and recommend the range of ways the Town can maximize benefit to the greatest number of community members.&nbsp; The first article for this was defeated narrowly and the second one was withdrawn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Else?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the first time in many years the COD spoke at Town Meeting.&nbsp; Ms. Bell attempted to represent the discussions of the commission on the issues.&nbsp; Attached is the text of the statements read.&nbsp; Feedback received indicates that the vocal support the COD expressed was informative for many present in the hall, and perhaps for those viewing at home as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Of the eight issues the COD voted to support, two failed and six were successful. <a href=\"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/2022\/05\/07\/cod-voiced-support-for-articles-at-town-meeting\/\" aria-label=\"Read full article about COD Voiced Support for Articles at Town Meeting\">Read full article<span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":81,"featured_media":1882,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1879"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/81"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1879"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1879\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1885,"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1879\/revisions\/1885"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1882"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1879"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1879"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/disability\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1879"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
