To the Editor of the Sudbury Town Crier:<\/P>
The Economic Development Committee wishes to restate it’s previous position endorsing the Sudbury Athletic Academy proposal for the redevelopment of property at 141 Boston Post Road. The committee has been following this application through the permitting process, and continues to maintain its original opinion that the benefits of the proposal far outweigh the impacts to the town. The committee appreciates the Town board’s concerns over the myriad of issues presented, however cautions the boards to focus on the relevant aspects of the proposal. Traffic problems on Route 20 cannot be solved by this proposal alone. Any use that is developed on this site will generate traffic, and add to the current problem. The proposed Athletic Academy will be one of the lowest traffic generators of the uses that could locate there. In addition, the controversy over competition from other nearby health clubs should not be a consideration to the town boards. <\/P>
Approval by the Board of Selectmen sends the message that the Town of Sudbury is committed to working in a proactive and consistent manner with businesses that fit with and compliment the goals of the Master Plan, and that the town is very serious in its focus to enhance our commercial tax base to ease the burden on the homeowners of Sudbury. For these reasons, this application should be approved without further delay. <\/P>
