{"id":926,"date":"2024-04-12T15:57:42","date_gmt":"2024-04-12T19:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/emmcp\/?p=926"},"modified":"2024-04-12T15:57:42","modified_gmt":"2024-04-12T19:57:42","slug":"helicopter-application-to-control-mosquito-larvae-2","status":"public-archive","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/emmcp\/2024\/04\/12\/helicopter-application-to-control-mosquito-larvae-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Helicopter Application to Control Mosquito Larvae"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project will be conducting a helicopter application of the biological larvicide, Bti (<em>Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis<\/em>), to control mosquito larvae in Bedford, Belmont, Burlington, Lexington, Maynard, Medford, North Reading, Reading, Sudbury, Waltham, Wayland, Wellesley, and Weston.&nbsp; One helicopter application will take place between April 16, 2024 and April 17, 2024. The Bti will be applied in a granular formulation by a helicopter flying low directly over the wetlands. Residents do not need to take any special precautions for this application.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bti is a natural occurring bacterium found in soil, and is classified by the EPA as relatively non-toxic. Bti is target specific and only affects mosquito larvae and a few closely related aquatic insects in the fly family. Bti breaks down quickly in the environment.
