Snow fall rates of 2-3 inches per hour are expected. Snow will have more moisture content than the previous large storm we had.

Wetter snow will increase the weight of the snow, making it harder to move and resulting in greater potential for electric power interruptions.

Winds are expecting to be sustained at 30-40 MPH with gusts 50-55 MPH.

Power Outages Expected

Eversource will have extra crews brought in. Eversource declared emergency plan estimates that power can be out 3-5 days in some cases. Restorations will not begin until it is safe to do so, per Eversource safety standards.

Keep away from any downed power line. Call 911 to report downed wires.

Please be extra vigilant if you use candles. Provide clearance around the candles.

Be extra careful with gas-powered devices such as idling cars, generators and snow blowers. These can create greater risks for carbon monoxide. Please make sure all carbon monoxide and smoke detectors are operational.

Charge all cell phones and devices now. Limit activity on them to save power in case you need to use your phone for an emergency.

Do not sit in idling car to charge phone as exhaust may creep in with high levels of carbon monoxide.

Snow Removal and Emergency Preparedness

Heavier snows clog augers and chutes of snow blowers. Never use your hands to clear out a snow blower. Always use some form of pole or scraper.

The heavier snow will be a challenge to shovel. Pace yourself. Do not over-exert. Stay hydrated.

PARKING BAN IS IN EFFECT. Parking is prohibited on streets and in all municipal parking lots.
