Head of Children&#8217;s Services &#8211; Goodnow Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ASSISTANT HEAD OF CHILDREN\u2019S SERVICES &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Description:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Goodnow Library is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual who can provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for children and families.&nbsp; Under the supervision of the Head of Children\u2019s Services, the Assistant Head of Children\u2019s Services will play a vital role in the development and implementation of outstanding Library programs and services for children. This individual will perform a wide variety of professional children\u2019s librarian work including, but not limited to, performing story times; creating promotional materials; running special programs such as book clubs, library-wide programs, etc.; providing reader\u2019s advisory services; responding to reference questions; and curating library collections. Preferred candidates will be creative, innovative, fun, be able to work independently, and possess excellent problem-solving skills. A positive attitude, flexibility, and desire to learn are essential.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to effectively communicate with patrons and staff, and present ideas and questions in a clear manner.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.<\/li>\n<li>Self-starter with excellent organizational skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to resolve conflicts and make decisions.<\/li>\n<li>Working knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including Google Workplace, Canva, marketing software, Microsoft suite.<\/li>\n<li>Comfortable using social media to promote the Library.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education &amp; Experience:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Master\u2019s Degree in Library Science or enrollment in a L.S. graduate program from an accredited institution required. One to two years working with children in a library setting preferred. Applicants adept at providing reader\u2019s advisory services to school age children and experience with children\u2019s programming will be given greater consideration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>General Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Assistant Head of Children\u2019s Services will provide a wide range of Library services for children, families, caregivers, and educators. Daily responsibilities include reference and readers&#8217; advisory services, the development and implementation of programs, and the coordination of departmental volunteers. The Assistant Head of Children\u2019s Services will actively participate in the advancement of services through a wide variety of marketing efforts, including newsletters, email blasts, print and electronic handouts, and social media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work closely with supervisors and staff to design a creative and educational summer reading program.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in community outreach, including school visits.<\/li>\n<li>Provide support and training for staff and volunteers.<\/li>\n<li>Work to improve the efficiency and organization of the children\u2019s department.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the identification of materials that will support the needs and interests of the community.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with staff scheduling, policies &amp; procedures, and program statistics.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in Short &amp; Long Term Planning.<\/li>\n<li>Handles daily operations of the Children\u2019s Room and acts as supervisor when the Head of Children\u2019s Services is not available.<\/li>\n<li>Available to work one Saturday a month and occasional evenings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Full Salary Range: <\/strong>$51,985-$68,373 (35 hours\/week); starting salary based on qualifications.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Closing Date: <\/strong>June 27, 2025<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Apply:<\/strong> Please Submit Cover Letter &amp; Resume to: Stephanie Oliver, Human Resources Director via email: jobs@sudbury.ma.us<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Town of Sudbury is an affirmative action\/equal opportunity employer.
