<\/p>\nThe September 11th Memorial Garden Oversight Committee invites the community to attend a special ceremony at the Memorial Garden in Heritage Park on Saturday, September 11th at 8:30 a.m., to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the tragic terrorist attacks that took the lives of town residents Geoffrey Cloud, Cora Hidalgo Holland, and Peter Morgan Goodrich, and to remember others who perished that day, including Lisa Gordenstein, whose family now lives in Sudbury. <\/p>\n
This year\u2019s milestone anniversary will be marked by noteworthy speakers from the Sudbury community, including Town Manager Henry Hayes, Selectperson Charles Russo, Memorial Garden Oversight Committee members Kirsten Roopenian and Beth Farrell, and the Reverend Eric Wolf from St. John Lutheran Church, ELC, who will offer an invocation on behalf of the Sudbury Interfaith Clergy Association.<\/p>\n
The bells at First Parish of Sudbury will toll at 8:46 a.m., the time the first hijacked plane hit the World Trade Center in 2001. A color guard of Police and Fire Department personnel will present the flag, while Committee members, friends, and relatives of those lost will lay flowers at the Memorial Garden center stone. <\/p>\n
Following the ceremony, everyone attending will be invited to walk to the Sudbury Historical Society at the Loring Parsonage for refreshments, the opening of the exhibit \u201cRemembering 9\/11 \u2013 20 Years Later,\u201d and the premier showing of a video commissioned by the Memorial Garden Oversight Committee.<\/p>\n
The video offers a poignant account of how the Memorial Garden was envisioned, designed, and installed by a grieving and compassionate community, and what it has meant to the families and friends of those lost. Stuart Beeby, of Stuart Beeby Photography, generously donated his time and services to produce the video.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter everything the world, the nation, and even Sudbury has endured the last year, it is more important than ever in 2021 to gather, remember, and reflect that community endures even longer,\u201d Farrell said. \u201cThis garden will forever be a testament to the Town of Sudbury.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rachael Robinson, Executive Director of the Sudbury Historical Society, said, \u201cWe are so honored to be able to share the stories of those lost but never forgotten from our Sudbury community. Our purpose is to highlight the act of coming together in the face of unfathomable tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n
All COVID precautions prescribed by the Town of Sudbury will be followed, including the requirement that masks be worn while viewing the exhibit inside the Loring Parsonage.<\/p>\n
The September 11th Memorial Garden is located in Heritage Park, at the intersection of Concord Road and Route 27, across from Sudbury Town Hall.<\/p>\n
