PROCLAMATION<\/h3>\n

 <\/strong><\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: Sudbury is a community committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion for its residents, students, employees, and visitors; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: during the month of June, Pride celebrations are held across the United States in recognition of the Stonewall Uprising, the birth of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement \u2014 a call to action that continues to inspire us to live up to our Nation\u2019s promise of equality, liberty, and justice for all; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: Pride is a time to recall the trials the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) community has endured and to rejoice in the triumphs of trailblazing individuals who have bravely fought \u2014 and continue to fight \u2014 for full equality; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: our Nation continues to witness a tragic spike in violence against transgender women of color; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: LGBTQ+ individuals \u2014 especially youth who defy sex or gender norms \u2014 face bullying and harassment in educational settings and are at a disproportionate risk of self-harm and death by suicide; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: we recognize the resilience and determination of the many individuals who are fighting to live freely and authentically; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: we affirm our obligation to uphold the dignity of all people, and dedicate ourselves to protecting the most vulnerable among us; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: ending violence and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community demands our continued focus and diligence; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: we stand with the LGBTQ+ community to protect their civil rights; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: the LGBTQ+ community has contributed to Sudbury\u2019s rich history since its inception; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/strong>: celebrating Pride Month influences awareness and provides support and advocacy for Sudbury\u2019s LGBTQ+ community, and is an opportunity to act and engage in dialogue to strengthen alliances, build acceptance and advance equal rights; and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/strong>: Sudbury community members are organizing events to celebrate our diverse LGBTQ+ community, and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/em><\/strong>: we urge all community members to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride by celebrating Pride and displaying Pride banners as visible manifestations of Sudbury\u2019s commitment to full inclusion of our LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

NOW, THEREFORE, <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Select Board, on behalf of the Town of Sudbury, do hereby proclaim THE MONTH OF JUNE (and the month of June in years hence) AS \u2018LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH\u2019 within the Town of Sudbury.<\/strong><\/p>\n

BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Select Board, on behalf of the Town of Sudbury, do hereby proclaim the second Saturday (and the second Saturday in June in years hence) as ‘FAMILY PRIDE DAY’ within the Town of Sudbury.<\/strong><\/p>\n
