\n\t Town Manager Maureen Valente announced today that she has appointed Capt. William “Bill” Miles to be the new Chief of the Sudbury Fire Department, effective February 1, 2011. Capt. Miles will replace Chief Ken MacLean, who is retiring after having served as Chief for the past six years. <\/p>\n
\n\t "Capt. Miles’ many years of experience with the Sudbury Fire Department make him an ideal candidate for the job," said Valente. "He has come up through the ranks, and he is well respected by the men in the Department. Bill, the only internal candidate, was selected from a pool of 20 other candidates who applied for the Department’s top job. I have every confidence in his ability to lead: he is well qualified, focused, and very well versed in the responsibilities of this vital public service department. He has impressive credentials, and the Department Heads, the Board of Selectmen and I look forward to working with him. Bill as the newest Department Head will be ably assisted by Asst. Fire Chief John Whalen, Captains Choate, Lewis and Stone and Lieutenants Glidden, Moreau, Reini and Ziehler – all with strong firefighting backgrounds. They will work with the new Chief to continue the standards of excellence and professionalism we have been fortunate to experience here in Sudbury”. <\/p>\n
\n\t“I’ve always considered the Town of Sudbury a great place to work,” said Capt. Miles. “I look forward to leading the dedicated, hard-working Firefighter\/EMTs of the Sudbury Fire Department into the next decade and expanding the services we provide to the people of Sudbury.” <\/p>\n
\n\tMiles started his Sudbury career with the Fire Department as a Firefighter\/EMT 29 years ago. He became Fire Lieutenant in 2001 and, in 2004, was subsequently appointed Fire Captain,<\/u> filling the position vacated when Capt. Ken MacLean became the Department Chief. Bill has also served as the Department’s mechanic for 29 years.<\/p>\n
