The Board of Selectmen deeply appreciates Curt&rsquo;s long-term dedication to the Sudbury community. Interested candidates should complete the <a href=\"http:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/documents\/download.asp?id=361\">&ldquo;Application for Appointment&rdquo; form<\/a>&nbsp;and email it to <a href=\"mailto:selectmen@sudbury.ma.us?subject=Sudbury%20Town%20Historian\">selectmen@sudbury.ma.us<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSomeone with a keen interest in Sudbury&rsquo;s past, a willingness to engage in time-consuming research and a knowledge encompassing genealogical information; significant historical events and more would be the ideal candidate for this position, described as follows:<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t<strong>Sudbury&nbsp;Town Historian:<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tThe designation &ldquo;Town Historian&rdquo; is an honorary appointment and will be restricted to a person who has the qualifications noted below.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\t&ldquo;Town Historian&rdquo; is a volunteer, unpaid position.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tSudbury&rsquo;s E-mail Communication Policy shall apply to this position. (<a href=\"#Public Records\">See paragraph below <\/a>for the guidelines.)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tAs Town Historian, the Conflict of Interest Law (<span class=\"scayt-misspell\" data-scayt_word=\"MGL\" data-scaytid=\"5\">MGL<\/span> <span class=\"scayt-misspell\" data-scayt_word=\"c.268A\" data-scaytid=\"3\">c.268A<\/span>) pertains to the position. (See <a href=\"http:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/services\/clerk\/SummaryConflictInterestLawMunicipalEmployees.pdf\">Summary of the Conflict of Interest Law<\/a>.)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tThe Town&rsquo;s Harassment Policy shall apply to this position. (<a href=\"http:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/documents\/download.asp?id=6338\">See&nbsp;policy<\/a>.)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t<strong>Purpose\/Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px\">\n\tProvide authoritative information, as needed or required, based on accurate data and objective evaluation and interpretation, of Sudbury&rsquo;s history to Town officials, boards, committees, and staff. Examples include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tBackground material for the commemoration of significant events, such as King Philip&rsquo;s Attack, Sudbury in the Revolutionary War, anniversary celebrations, etc.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tData concerning ancient roads, bounds, land allotments, and decisions which bear upon the resolution of contemporary legal questions.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tGenealogical information.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tInformation on buildings and sites.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tAnnual Town Report submission as requested by the Selectmen&rsquo;s Office.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t<strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px\">\n\tThe Town Historian shall have the following mandatory qualifications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tKeen interest in Sudbury&rsquo;s past.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tKnowledge of availability of original records and other source materials on Sudbury and how to obtain and use them.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tWillingness to engage in time-consuming research.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; padding-top: 4px\">\n\t\t\tAbility to evaluate, interpret and present results for official or public use.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t<a name=\"Public Records\"><strong>PUBLIC RECORDS APPLICABILITY:<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px\">\n\tThe Secretary of the Commonwealth advises that the Public Records Law clearly applies to government records generated or received electronically. All electronic mail sent, and all electronic mail received by principal addressees (not received as a &ldquo;cc&rdquo;) at a Town-issued address, or any address when in an official capacity, should be considered a public record subject to inspection and disclosure and scheduled retention and disposition. Town appointees, acting in their official capacity, should have no expectation of privacy in their use of electronic mail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px\">\n\t<strong>Appointments:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px\">\n\tThe term expiration for most Town board and committee appointments is May 31.
