{"id":1665,"date":"2018-01-25T14:01:32","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T19:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/townmanager\/?p=731"},"modified":"2018-01-25T14:01:32","modified_gmt":"2018-01-25T19:01:32","slug":"deputy-chief-whalen-selected-for-sudbury-fire-chief","status":"public-archive","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/selectboardsoffice\/2018\/01\/25\/deputy-chief-whalen-selected-for-sudbury-fire-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"Deputy Chief Whalen Selected for Sudbury Fire Chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman\">Town Manager Melissa Rodrigues announced today that Assistant Fire Chief John Whalen has been selected for Fire Chief in Sudbury.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman\">\u201cAfter an extensive internal process with several qualified candidates, I have selected John Whalen to serve as the Town of Sudbury\u2019s next fire chief,\u201d Rodrigues said. \u201cJohn stood out based on his administrative experience and understanding of the Town\u2019s structure, budget and protocols. I\u2019m looking forward to serving with him and to continuing the great traditions of the Sudbury Fire Department.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman\">Chief William Miles is retiring at the end of the month after 36 years of service in Sudbury. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman\">\u201cChief Miles will be sorely missed,\u201d Rodrigues said. \u201cHe has made a long lasting mark on this town with his work on our ambulance service and the relationships he has forged. I know that Assistant Chief Whalen will continue on the great work that Chief Miles has done and will continue to modernize and better our department over the years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman\">Deputy Chief Whalen has served as the Assistant Chief in Sudbury since 2010. Prior to that designation, he was a Lieutenant in the Ayer Fire Department for thirty years.
