{"id":2072,"date":"2021-02-25T12:00:32","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T17:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/selectboardsoffice\/?p=2072"},"modified":"2021-03-02T11:21:26","modified_gmt":"2021-03-02T16:21:26","slug":"lwv-candidates-forum","status":"public-archive","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/selectboardsoffice\/2021\/02\/25\/lwv-candidates-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Candidates in LWV Forum On SudburyTV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do You Have Questions for League of Women Voters Candidates&#8217; Forum?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The League of Women Voters of Sudbury will tape its Candidates\u2019 Forum for the contested races in the March 29 town election on Feb. 27.&nbsp; Those contested races are for Select Board, Sudbury Public Schools (K-8) School Committee, and Goodnow Library Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n<p>Sudbury citizens are invited to submit questions for the candidates in those races by 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22.&nbsp; Questions may be submitted to the League by email to <a href=\"mailto:sudburycandidatesnight@gmail.com\">sudburycandidatesnight@gmail.com<\/a> or by mailing to Candidates Forum, LWV Sudbury, P.O. Box 338, Sudbury, MA 01776.<\/p>\n<p>The forum format is to ask the same questions of all the candidates in a race, so questions submitted should apply to the office as a whole and not be addressed to individual candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates in the contested races are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Select Board<\/strong>, two seats:&nbsp; Dan Carty (incumbent), Janie Dretler (incumbent), and Lisa Kouchakdjian<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sudbury Public School Committee<\/strong>, two seats:&nbsp; Silvia Nerssessian (incumbent), Mandy Sim, and Tyler Steffey<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goodnow Library Trustees<\/strong>, two seats:&nbsp; Marie Royea (incumbent), Lily Gordon (incumbent), and Natalie Schlegel<\/p>\n<p>This is the second year that the League has used a videotaped format for its Candidate Forum rather than a live format.&nbsp; Each contested race will have its own program of about an hour in which the candidates will answer questions. Candidates in uncontested races will have an opportunity to tape a segment on the office they seek and their plans for that office which will be compiled in a separate program.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe think this approach allows more time for the candidates in contested races to present themselves to the voters,\u201d said Nell Forgacs, voter service co-chair for the Sudbury League.&nbsp; \u201cWe are not trying to squeeze panels for all the contested races into one 90-minute live event.&nbsp; We can offer the candidates for each contested office ample time to address the issues.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The forums will be shown on Sudbury TV Channel 8 (Comcast) and Channel 31 (Verizon) and will be repeated frequently throughout the month of March before the election.&nbsp; The forums will also be available on the station\u2019s website, <a href=\"http:\/\/sudburytv.org\">www.sudburytv.org<\/a>, as a video-on-demand option.<\/p>\n<p>The election is Monday, March 29, and the deadline to register to vote in that election is March 9. Mail-in voting is encouraged for this election. Voters wishing to vote by mail should apply for a mail-in ballot as soon as possible. Voters can visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sudbury.ma.us\">www.sudbury.ma.us<\/a> and click on the Annual Town Election bar at the top of the page to print a request form.
