{"id":3799,"date":"2024-08-14T12:02:27","date_gmt":"2024-08-14T16:02:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/selectboardsoffice\/?p=3799"},"modified":"2024-08-14T12:07:52","modified_gmt":"2024-08-14T16:07:52","slug":"proclamation-womens-equality-day","status":"public-archive","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/selectboardsoffice\/2024\/08\/14\/proclamation-womens-equality-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Proclamation: Women&#8217;s Equality Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>PROCLAMATION<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS<strong>, <\/strong>from the early 1800\u2019s women in the United States have continuously worked to gain full rights and privileges \u2013 public and private, legal and institutional \u2013 as citizens of the United States; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS<strong>, <\/strong>the Women\u2019s Rights Convention at Seneca Falls in 1848 declared \u201cWe hold these truths to be self-evident: all men and women are created equal\u201d and insisted that \u201cwomen have immediate admission to all the rights and privileges which belong to them as citizens of the United States;\u201d and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS<strong>, <\/strong>women and men of all races persisted for nearly a century, struggling against violence and discrimination, to win the right of women to vote; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS<strong>, <\/strong>the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution, ratified in 1920, states \u201cThe right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex\u201d; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS<strong>, <\/strong>Congress, in 1973, designated August 26, the date the Nineteenth Amendment was certified, as Women\u2019s Equality Day; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS<strong>, <\/strong>Women\u2019s Equality Day affords Sudbury the opportunity to highlight the importance of women\u2019s work toward achieving the goal of equal rights and opportunity; now therefore be it<\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>RESOLVED that the Sudbury Select Board hereby recognizes and commemorates Women\u2019s Equality Day, August 26th, as a celebration of the importance of the women\u2019s suffrage movement and the ongoing efforts to secure and expand equal rights, full civic inclusion and human dignity to all citizens of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Signed this 13<sup>th<\/sup> day of August in the year two thousand twenty-four.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>SELECT BOARD<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jennifer S.
