Sudbury Recycling Guide

Sudbury Transfer Station, 20 Boston Post Road

Hours of Operation: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday - 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (Put & Take closes 1/2 earlier)

You must have a sticker on your vehicle to enter the Transfer Station

MATERIALS WHAT TO RECYCLE HOW TO RECYCLE NOT ACCEPTABLE
Clean corrugated cardboard only Clean corrugated cardboard, any color Boxes must be flattened No corrugated cardboard that is soiled. No pizza boxes. No boxes previously containing food items. No paperboard boxes. No polystyrene (Styrofoam).*
Newspaper and mixed paper including brown paper bags Newspaper, junk mail, mixed office paper,  phonebooks, magazines, catalogs, paper bags, all clean paperboard, paperboard boxes, cereal boxes, paper egg cartons. Must be loose.  No bags or string.   No heavy coated containers such as milk cartons or juice boxes. No pizza boxes. No tissue, napkins, paper cups & plates,  carton paper, envelopes w/foil, liners, plastic bags, plastic-coated paper (e.g., U.S. postal or FedEx) No hardcover books.
Clean glass bottles and jars. Clear, green, brown. Remove lids, corks, caps, metal/ plastic screw tops, neck rings,  or neck labels. No window glass, Pyrex, mirrors, drinking glasses, light bulbs, chinaware or pottery. NO returnables in this bin.
Plastics # 1&2 with recycling symbol on bottom showing number Clean empty plastic containers and jugs separated by recycling symbol numbers.  Deposit in designated bins. Rinse out containers. Flatten milk  /water jugs on clean surface. Well drained motor oil & Antifreeze bottles accepted. No plastic bags, caps or lids.  No polystyrene (Styrofoam) No pesticide bottles.  No plastic or vinyl sheeting  Caution: Motor oil & antifreeze are hazardous materials.DO NOT dispose down a drain.

Clean Scrap Metal and appliances ** All metal items: cast iron, light iron, copper, brass, lead. (Some appliances $5 fee.) Deposit in large scrap metal bin.  No oil based paint cans. No propane tanks, TV sets. No refrigerators, dehumidifiers, air conditioners (these are collected separately by the monitor).
Tin and steel cans, metal jar lids. Clean food and beverage cans. Empty aerosol cans. Rinse/flatten if possible, Paper labels O.K. Put in designated area. No returnable cans in this bin.
Aluminum cans,
foil and lids.
Clean cans, foil, pie plates, Food containers/trays. Deposit with tin and steel
cans in scrap metal bin.
No returnable cans in this bin.
Motor Oil Car motor, lawnmower,
Transmission, hydraulic
oil.
Empty into designated
collection tank.
No antifreeze, brake fluid, gasoline. These are hazardous waste materials
Batteries All batteries. Dry cell and alkaline. Ex., car boat & motorcycle batteries, all battery sizes. Leave in designated area.  
Leaves and grass clippings Leaves and Grass
clippings only.
Bring to designated area. Dump
leaves/clippings out of bags.
No plastic bags. No brush, limbs, wood, stumps, etc.
Christmas Trees Bare Christmas Trees. Dec. 26 to Feb. 1. Take to designated area. No ornaments, tinsel, wreaths.
Tires Car ($2.00) and truck tires. Drop off at designated area. Small fee per tire. See monitor.  
Clothing Wearable used clothing. Put into collection bin. Only clothing is accepted.
Books Used books. Leave in used book building. No Condensed Readers Digest, textbooks, phone books, etc.
Put & Take area.(May thru Oct. only). Clean reusable items
in good working condition.
Leave in designated area. No mattresses, box springs, upholstered furniture, TVs.No mattresses, box springs, upholstered furniture, TVs.
No tires. No computers, monitors, printers. No clothes,
rugs, or books. No sinks, toilets, wood, No propane tanks,
gas, oil or other hazardous waste materials.

* Clean Polystyrene (Styrofoam) plates, cups, containers, packing blocks, and clean marked/unmarked plastics (includes caps and lids) not  accepted at Recycling Center.  Styrofoam “peanuts/shells” recycled at packing companies, i.e. Postal Annex-Wayland, Mail Boxes Etc.

**Any bulk items or large loads of scrap metal must be free from debris.

NOTE: This is only a general guide.  Please follow instructions on the signs at Recycling Center. 

Other items that can be brought to the Transfer Station for a fee:  Construction debris, shingles, television sets, computer monitors.
