Last year, the Board of Health Social Work Office offered a program called Budget Buddies at Longfellow Glen. This program offers a series of financial/budgeting workshops and 1:1 mentoring for each participant. The program is for women and run by women, and is open to anyone 18 years and older. Budget Buddies understands that Massachusetts does not require financial literacy training in the K-12 school curriculum, leaving residents to acquire financial knowledge on their own. Budget Buddies’ goal is to support women in Massachusetts to become more financially confident and self-sufficient.

After the first round of Budget Buddies, participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Residents reported raising their credit scores, saving for big ticket items, decreasing debt and increasing their confidence in their ability to manage their finances. Participants also noted how supportive and non-judgmental the program was, and how comfortable they felt with the Budget Buddies presenters and mentors.

Thanks to the support of the Presbyterian Church in Sudbury (330 Concord Rd), the Board of Health is offering the next round of Budget Buddies on Thursday evenings (every other week) from 6:30-7:30pm from August 23rd-February 7th. Please click here to see the schedule and additional details.
