{"id":2630,"date":"2022-07-14T16:15:58","date_gmt":"2022-07-14T20:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/socialworker\/?p=2630"},"modified":"2026-01-13T13:47:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T18:47:23","slug":"education-employment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudbury.ma.us\/socialworker\/2022\/07\/14\/education-employment\/","title":{"rendered":"Education &amp; Employment"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Education &amp; Employment<\/h1>\n<p><strong><u>Free GED (General Education Dev.) and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Classes and Tutoring:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/framinghamlibrary.org\/literacy\/our-program\/\"><strong>Literacy Unlimited at Framingham Public Library<\/strong><\/a><strong> &#8211; <\/strong>Offers 1:1 GED tutoring and <strong>individualized tutoring to help residents meeting personal goals such as: <\/strong>becoming employed or to become better employed, learning English, getting citizenship, finishing a GED, getting a driver&#8217;s license, and learning to read.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/framinghamlibrary.org\/literacy\/become-a-student\/conversation-classes\/\">Conversational English Classes at Framingham Public Library<\/a> <\/strong>&#8211; Drop-in classes to practice English. Classes levels are low beginner, beginner, intermediate, and advanced.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/faesl.org\/\"><strong>Framingham Adult ESL Plus<\/strong><\/a><strong> &#8211; <\/strong>ESL and citizenship classes. There may be a waitlist followed by a lottery system.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smoc.org\/joan-brack-adult-learning-center.php\"><strong>SMOC (South Middlesex Opportunity Council)-Joan Brack Adult Learning Center<\/strong><\/a><strong> &#8211; <\/strong>Young Parents GED Program \u2013 20 hours a week. Must be under 22 with at least one child and working with the DTA (Department of Transitional Assistance) to be considered for the program. Free ESL classes are also available.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hudsonadulted.org\/\"><strong>Hudson\/Maynard Adult Learning Center<\/strong><\/a><strong> &#8211; <\/strong>HiSET classes (a.k.a. GED) to those over age 16. Requires a placement test to determine educational level. Also provides ESL classes. Classes meet from September-May (can call to be put on a waitlist but must be present for registration and placement test in August).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/clintonadulteducation\/home\"><strong>Clinton Adult Learning Center<\/strong><\/a><strong> &#8211; <\/strong>HiSET preparation classes and free ESL Classes \u2013 beginning, intermediate and advanced level students.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qcc.edu\/services\/adult-community-learning-center\"><strong>Quinsigamond Community College \u2013 Adult Learning Center<\/strong><\/a><strong> \u2013 <\/strong>Opportunities include a CNA program, a tuition-free nursing assistance training program, HiSET\/GED preparation classes, ESL classes, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Other Continuing Education and Job Training Resources: <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.masshiremsw.com\/\">Mass Hire Framingham Career Center<\/a><\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Assistance with job search and applications<\/li>\n<li>Workshops on a variety of topics such as: resume writing, job search, interviewing, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Access to computers and office supplies needed to apply for jobs<\/li>\n<li>Staff available to assist, including case advisors for those with intensive needs that meet eligibility<\/li>\n<li>Funding for continuing education for those who are unemployed and seeking additional training to re-enter the work force<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>One Family Inc.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.onefamilyinc.org\/c2c\">Credential to Career<\/a> <\/strong>&#8211; A free 12-week program that helps parents identify a pathway to a career that pays a family-sustaining wage, with resume help and scholarships. Program participants will explore different career options that match their skills, experiences, and interests; determine what credential they need to enter a preferred career and create a plan to achieve goals.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.onefamilyinc.org\/scholars\">One Family Scholars<\/a> <\/strong>&#8211; Coaching &amp; Scholarships (including scholarships to help pay for books and living expenses) for single parents with low-incomes working toward Associates or Bachelors degrees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cweonline.org\/\">Center for Women and Enterprise<\/a> <\/strong>&#8211; Helps women and men increase professional success, personal growth, and financial independence.
