This is an opportunity to reflect on the historical significance of this milestone and explore how the history of our local communities has shaped our understanding of American history and the foundational ideals of liberty, equality, and democracy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Essay Theme:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students are encouraged to consider the following questions in their essays:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How has living near historic sites influenced your perspective on American history and the principles outlined in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution?<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In what ways do you see these promises fulfilled\u2014or unfulfilled\u2014today?<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What actions, whether personal or local, can help ensure that these founding ideals are fully realized in our communities?<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Essays may explore any of these questions or other relevant themes surrounding the significance of the nation&#8217;s 250th anniversary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Prizes:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Three outstanding students will be awarded <\/span><b>a prize of $200 each<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, along with recognition at a special award ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Submission Guidelines:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Essays should be no longer than 1,000 words in standard written English.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Evaluation Criteria \u2013 Clarity, feasibility, use of plausible examples, supporting events, originality of concepts, and adherence to the contest theme.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No AI use permitted \u2013 essays must be the original work of the student.
