SUDBURY, MA\u2014While many of the activities at Sudbury Day appeal to people of all ages, the children\u2019s activities have always been a big draw. This year, on Saturday, September 17, between noon and 5:00 PM in Sudbury Town Center, Sudbury Day will present several new activities that offer nearly something for children of all tastes and ages\u2014from remote control auto racing on a real track to animated film screenings to storytelling by a noted children\u2019s author.<\/P>
Children and adults alike can experience the thrill of NASCAR auto racing when the Sudbury Youth Commission presents Big Daddy Auto Racing, a NASCAR-style 30-foot square speedway with remote control cars. The fees collected to participate benefit the refurbishment of the skate park at Haskell Field. The Youth Commission will also be selling Italian gelato from Angelato\u2019s of Belmont with proceeds also benefiting the skate park.<\/P>
The Presbyterian Church will be the site of Sudbury Day\u2019s first ever film screenings for children. Linnea in Monet\u2019s Garden, an animated film about a Swedish girl discovering artist Claude Monet\u2019s garden at Giverny in France, is suitable for children of all ages and will be shown from 2:00 to 2:30. From 2:30-3:30 the folks from Anime Boston, Boston\u2019s biggest Anime convention, will present three exciting Anime (stylized Japanese animation) films for children ages 7 to 12. They\u2019ll also give away some nifty Anime items.<\/P>
The Main Stage will feature another Sudbury Day first: storytelling and reading by a noted children\u2019s author. Presented by the Friends of Goodnow Library, Cambridge-based Norah Dooley will read from her series of books entitled Everybody Cooks\u2026 (rice, noodles and soup), as well as tell stories that excite the imagination. Afterward, she will autograph her books (which can be purchased in advance at Marlborough Savings Bank in Sudbury or during the event). Sudbury Farms will also sample a dish prepared from one of the recipes featured in her books.<\/P>
As always, the popular Children\u2019s Pavilion returns with a whole new set of adventures. With passport in hand, children can set out on an expedition to explore the far corners of the Mediterranean Sea. Admission is $10 per child, which includes participation in seven individual activities (Say Formaggio, The Fishing Village, Shifting Sands, Transcontinental Toss, Olympian Games, Out of Africa, and Ancient Egypt) and a keepsake \u201cpassport\u201d.<\/P>
These activities are made possible in part by a grant from the Sudbury Foundation.
