Located throughout the field of the Peter Noyes Elementary School playground, The Marketplace assures one-of-a-kind experiences thanks to the corporate and nonprofit community’s imagination and enthusiasm.

The tethered hot air balloon rides (weather permitting) offered by World Sponsor RE/MAX First Realty-Sam Webb will probably be the easiest to spot. Fellow World Sponsor William Raveis Real Estate will also be hard to miss, as they will demonstrate Mediterranean faux painting techniques.

Other World Sponsors with unusual exhibits include: Emerson Hospital, which will reveal plans for their new Emerson Medical facility at Chiswick Park; Pediatric Dentistry, which is showcasing the various traditions from around the world for when children’s teeth fall out, featured in the book Throw Your Tooth on the Roof; and Marlborough Savings Bank and Sudbury Farms, who are pairing up to support children’s author Norah Dooley’s appearance sponsored by Friends of the Goodnow Library by selling her books (starting September 12 at the Sudbury Farms location) for autographing and preparing recipes from her books, respectively. Whole Foods Market will feature a sampling of their Italian and Mediterranean dishes created by their chefs, while those who visit the Shaw’s booth will be able to “shop the world” with food sampling. Finally, kids can explore one of Allied Waste Industries’s (formerly BFI) brand new garbage trucks.

Several businesses will carry items relating to the event’s emphasis on the Mediterranean Sea, including beautiful Provençal table fabrics from France, various forms of lavender, Mediterranean sea salt, Venetian glass, and pottery. Other businesses will feature items from around the world, such as children’s books, dolls, and toys, stamps, folk art, photography, and jewelry.

Moon bouncers, animals, and the popular Child Identification Program (ChIP) offered by the Masons round out some of the other activities. Those who love the thrill of speed can imagine driving in France’s Grand Prix at the Park & Recreation Department’s Big Daddy’s Super Speedway, where participants can test their skill at NASCAR-style, remote control car racing on a 30 square foot track. Proceeds will benefit the town’s skate park.

For more information about the event and exhibitors in The Marketplace, visit www.sudbury.ma.us/committees/sudburyday.

The Marketplace this year will feature several unusual exhibits, items for sale, and activities by area businesses.
