The Town of Sudbury’s Commission on Disability Offers Accessible Trick-or-Treat
Children with disabilities can participate in an accessible trick-or-treat experience this Halloween from 5-7pm on Meadowbrook Circle and Meadowbrook Road in Sudbury, Mass.

Sudbury, Mass. (October 2, 2024) – Following the success of last year’s event, a group of parents in partnership with the Town of Sudbury’s Commission on Disability are once again bringing community groups and several town businesses together so families have an inclusive, allergy-friendly Halloween experience for children of all abilities.

The Accessible Trick-or-Treat will take place on Thursday, October 31, 5-7pm on Meadowbrook Circle and Meadowbrook Road. All are invited; no registration is required.

To make a more inclusive Halloween experience, trick-or-treat stations will be at the end of each driveway, free from obstacles and barriers. Tables will be well-lit, but trick-or-treaters are encouraged to bring flashlights. Decorations that use strobe lights or have high-pitched, sudden loud noises will not be used, and pets will be kept away from the front of their houses. Every station will also have two bowls – one bowl of treats that are peanut, nut, and gluten-free, and another bowl filled with toys for an allergy-friendly experience.

An attendee from last year’s event shared, “My family came to your event tonight for the first time and I had to email right away to share that it was absolutely wonderful! My twins had such a great time and everyone was so friendly and sweet. I am in awe of what your community offered and I want to make sure everyone involved knows just how much of an impact they had on neurodivergent families like mine.”

Feedback was also received from residents of the Meadowbrook neighborhood and volunteers:

“We were thrilled to be a part of it! Well done on a wonderful, thoughtful, accessible for all Halloween. May it be the first of many!”

“Just wanted to pass along congratulations for producing such a wonderful trick or treat event last evening. That had to be a record for the number of kids trick or treating. The work you did to generate that kind of participation had to be immense. Can’t wait for next year. We are going to need to step up our game for decorating our yard again. You put smiles on a bunch of kids and parents.”
