The Sudbury Community Preservation Committee is currently soliciting project proposals for funding under the Community Preservation Act (CPA). Proposals will be accepted through October 30, 2009. The FY10 CPC Project Form is available at the Planning and Community Development office, or can be downloaded here. CPA funds must be used, reserved or retained as set forth in the Act. A minimum of 10% of annual revenue must used or reserved in each of the following categories: open space, community housing, and historic preservation. The remaining 70% of the funds can be used for any of these three purposes as well as the category of recreation, or can be retained for future use in all four areas.

All project proposals must be recommended to Town Meeting by a majority of the Community Preservation Committee. Project proponents will be notified of the acceptance of their proposal for further evaluation, and will be scheduled to present to the CPC later in the fall as it develops a final list of projects to recommend at the April 2010 Town Meeting. Project proponents are encouraged to review the Project Submission Form carefully for all project requirements.

Sudbury’s 2009 Annual Town Meeting approved seven projects in all three funding categories, including 4 in the Historic Preservation category: Historic Document Preservation, Cemetery Gravestone Restoration, Historic Homes Survey, Loring Parsonage Exterior Restoration: 1 in the Community Housing category for the Sudbury Housing Trust Allocation: 1 in the Open Space category for 79 Lincoln Lane Preservation; and 1 in the Recreation Category for creation of a concept plan for the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. In the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2009, Sudbury’s CPA surcharge raised approximately $2,400,000, including the state match of $965,898. We anticipate FY10 figures to be lower due to declining state matching funds.
