Sudbury Transportation Options

The Sudbury Transportation Committee was formed in September 2018 to research and plan for Sudbury’s transportation needs.  The Committee successfully launched 4 new transportation services that supplement the ongoing Sudbury Connection van services through the Sudbury Senior Center. 

The Town currently offers the following types of transportation services:

Please note that transportation services may change or have limits.  Keep up to date with emails or other communications from the Sudbury Senior Center and/or Sudbury Transportation Committee.

1) Sudbury Connection Van Service (Wheelchair Accessible)

For: Sudbury residents 60 and older and residents who are 18 and older who are living with a disability.

To apply: Print out the attached application below or contact the Sudbury Senior Center at 978-443-3055 or senior@sudbury.ma.us for an application.

 

2)   MWRTA Dial A Ride (supplemental to Connection Van service – only Tues/Thu from 4:00-7:00 PM)

Eligibility: Sudbury residents 60 and older and residents who are 18 and older who are living with a disability.

To apply: Print out the attached application below or contact the Sudbury Senior Center at 978-443-3055 or senior@sudbury.ma.us for an application.

 

3) GoSudbury! Taxi Medical Rides Program – Please note funding is limited.

Eligibility:

  • A Sudbury resident or
  • A non-Sudbury resident with a child enrolled in Sudbury Public Schools or Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School or
  • A person who works in Sudbury

And, you also meet one of the following criteria:

  • 60 years of age or older
  • 18 years of age or older with a disability that limits driving
  • Active duty military, Reserves, National Guard, or veteran of the armed forces
  • 18 years of age or older with financial need

4) GoSudbury! Uber Rides Program – Please note funding is limited.

Eligibility:

  • A Sudbury resident or
  • A non-Sudbury resident with a child enrolled in Sudbury Public Schools or Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School or
  • A person who works in Sudbury

          And, you also meet one of the following criteria:

  • 60 years of age or older
  • 18 years of age or older with a disability that limits driving
  • Active duty military, Reserves, National Guard, or veteran of the armed forces
  • 18 years of age or older with financial need

5) Catch Connect Sudbury

Eligibility:

 Targeted to serve:

    • Adults 60 and older
    • Those who are 12 years of age and older who have a disability
    • Those who are 12 years of age and older who have financial need.

However, this service is eligible to all residents 12 years of age and older.

Catch Connect Sudbury is an on-demand service via wheelchair-accessible van for transportation within Sudbury and along Route 20 in Marlborough up to and including the Target Store plaza. 

 The service is available Monday – Friday, 12:00 – 6:00 PM.

Riders download the MWRTA Catch app to their smartphone or call (508) 283-5083 to request a ride. 

 

6) Sudbury-Wayland Boston Hospital Shuttle

Sudbury partners with the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority to run the Hospital Shuttle on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week.  There are three runs to the hospitals and stops are based on the reservations made at least a full 24 hours in advance.

Call 508-820-4650 to register and to make a reservation.  Service is currently FARE FREE to due a Mass. State Grant through June 30, 2025.

1.            Sudbury Connection Van Service

The Sudbury Connection Wheelchair Accessible Van Service is operated through the Sudbury Senior Center, in conjunction with the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA).  This is a shared ride service which means that on occasion your ride time may be adjusted to accommodate the van schedule.

Van Service Hours and Eligibility:

Monday through Friday (excluding holidays)

8:30 AM – 4:00 PM (first ride at 8:45 AM; last ride starts at 3:30 PM)

Van Service is available to Sudbury residents 60 years of age and older and residents who are 18 and older who are living with a disability that limits driving.

Van Service Area:

The Sudbury Connection van provides service within Sudbury as well as to health care destinations in Wayland, Framingham, Marlborough, Maynard and Concord.  The Connection van also provides rides to Stop and Shop/Wayland and Market Basket in Maynard on Monday – Friday, and to Target in Marlborough once each month.

Applying for and Using the Service:

If you would like to apply, please contact the Sudbury Senior Center for an application or CLICK HERE to access the application form directly. When your application is approved you will set up a debit account with the MWRTA for van fees. Van fees are $1.00 in town; $2.00 for out of town for a one-way ride and are deducted when you take a ride.  (NOTE: Currently, Van Service is FARE FREE through Aug. 31).

Once approved, reserve Van rides at least 48 business hours in advance by contacting the MWRTA Reservation Center at 508-820-4650.

2. MWRTA Dial-a-Ride – Supplement to Sudbury Connection

(Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00-7:00 PM)

The MWRTA Dial-a-Ride is a supplemental service to the Connection van service and is operated by the MWRTA, in conjunction with the Sudbury Senior Center.

Service Hours and Eligibility:

Service is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-7:00 PM.  Service is available to Sudbury residents 60 and older and residents who are 18 and older who are living with a disability. 

Applying and Using the Service:

If you are already registered for the Sudbury Connection van, you can reserve rides during Dial a Ride hours.  If you are not registered, and would like to apply, please contact the Senior Center for an application or CLICK HERE to access the application form directly. When your application is approved you will set up a debit account with the MWRTA for van fees. 3. Go Sudbury! Taxi Rides Program

(health care transportation only)

Created by the Transportation Committee. 

The Go Sudbury! Taxi Rides Service is a Town and grant funded transportation program provided with service from Town-contracted taxi companies. 

The service grant and town funded and is available as funds are available.  The service is for all types of medical and health care appointments only, and to be used when there is no other public transportation available.  

Please note: Health care rides that are in Sudbury, Wayland, Framingham, Marlborough or Maynard should be taken with the Sudbury Connection van when possible.

Tommy’s Taxi (Framingham), JFK Transportation (Natick) and Annex Transit provide taxi rides, which are covered by the Town of Sudbury and grant funding, to and from medical-related appointments.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) service is also available. Individuals needing WAV service may use the Go Sudbury! Taxi Rides Program for other essential purposes as well.

Service Hours:

Rides are reserved by contacting the dispatch service at CrossTown Connect at 978-844-6809.

Service hours vary based on which Taxi company is available.   The Town contracts with three taxi companies for this service: Tommy’s Taxi, JFK Transportation and Annex Transit.

Eligibility:

You may qualify if you are:

  • A Sudbury resident or
  • A non-Sudbury resident with a child enrolled in Sudbury Public Schools or Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School or
  • A person who works in Sudbury

And, you also meet one of the following criteria:

  • 60 years of age or older
  • 18 years of age or older with a disability that limits driving
  • Active duty military, Reserves, National Guard, or veteran of the armed forces
  • 18 years of age or older with financial need

Service Guidelines:

  • Rides may be within Sudbury* and up to 25 miles from Sudbury.
  • All rides must begin or end in Sudbury.
  • There is a limit of 4 one-way medical rides per month per person (as of Nov. 1, 2024.)

Go Sudbury! Taxi Rides are currently fully subsidized through grant and town sources, so there is no charge to use the service.  However, cost sharing is expected to be implemented in the near future to sustain the program.

*Riders are encouraged to use the Sudbury Connection van service for medical rides in Sudbury, Framingham, Marlborough, Maynard, Concord and Wayland.   This will assist in maintaining funding for the Taxi program.

 

Reserving a Ride:

Once approved to use the service, please contact the CrossTown Connect Dispatch Call Center to arrange your rides for the Go Sudbury! Taxi Rides Program as follows:

  • Dispatching hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Rides must be booked with dispatch at least 24 hours in advance of a ride

4. Go Sudbury! Uber Rides Program

Created by the Transportation Committee. 

The Go Sudbury! Uber Rides Program is a Town-funded, partially subsidized, transportation program provided via Uber to get from one place to another if no other public transportation is available. Grant funding may also help to support the program. Rides are provided for non-urgent healthcare and vaccination appointments, work, shopping, and accessing community resources.

Accessibility:

Annex Transit will be available to those who cannot use the GoSudbury Uber program due to a physical, sensory, or cognitive disability, or other limitations that may prevent them from accessing the Uber services.

  • Active duty military, Reserves, National Guard, or veteran of the armed forces
  • 18 years of age or older with financial need

Service Guidelines:

  • Rides may be within Sudbury and up to 25 miles from Sudbury.
  • All rides must begin or end in Sudbury.
  • Service is provided to the Logan Express Shuttle in Framingham, but not to Logan Airport. 
  • There is a limit of 4 one-way rides per month per person (as of Sept. 1, 2024.)

Co-pay:

The copay for a one-way ride is based on the distance of the ride as follows:

  1. For a ride within Sudbury, the copay is $3.00.
  2. For a ride to towns that are adjacent to Sudbury[2], the copay is $5.00.
  3. For a ride beyond Sudbury and the towns that are adjacent to Sudbury, the copay is $15.00.

[2] Towns that are adjacent to Sudbury are: Framingham, Marlborough, Maynard, Acton, Concord, Lincoln, and Wayland.

 

**WAV Service Note**

The Uber Rides Program does not provide wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAV) at this time.  For rides in a WAV vehicle please use the Sudbury Connection Van service for local service or you may contact the Sudbury Senior Center to discuss your eligibility for Annex Transit service for longer rides.

 

Applying and Using the Service:

You must have a private account with Uber on your smartphone for this service. An Uber Clinic Technology Support volunteer will assist participants with issues related to downloading and using the Uber application on your smartphone for this program.

5. Catch Connect Sudbury

Catch Connect Sudbury shuttle is a new, grant-funded, pilot program sponsored by the Sudbury Transportation Committee and the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA).  This new Microtransit on-demand service will start in Sudbury on July 1, 2024 and is targeted to serve the same population as the subsidized Uber program, although the shuttle is open to everyone as seating is available. 

Service will be offered Mondays through Fridays, from 12:00 – 6:00 PM and will be provided by a wheelchair accessible van from the MWRTA.  Riders will be able to request a ride as they need it and potentially get picked up within a few minutes to ½ hour. 

Rides will be within Sudbury and destinations will include stops along Route 20 and nearby to the Target Store in Marlborough. 

Riders will download the MWRTA Catch Connect Sudbury app onto their smart phones and request rides through the app.  There is a phone line available for those unable to use the app at (508) 283-5083.

Sudbury and the MWRTA will offer Catch Connect services free for the first month (July 2024), to attract users and showcase the new option.  After that period, the cost per ride will be $2.  There is no cap on the number of rides.

6. Sudbury-Wayland Boston Hospital Shuttle
