The Board of Selectmen created the Budget Review Task Force to study the Town’s recurring budgetary deficit situation and determine if there are ways, both in the short term and over the long term, to enhance revenues or reduce expenses beyond what the Town is already doing. The Final Report of the BRTF is presented here. Additionally, the Sudbury Public Schools, the Sudbury Town Manager and Town department heads prepared responses to suggestions in the Final Report. These responses are intended to clarify and/or add to information presented by the BRTF.

The Board of Selectmen also asked the Town Manager to develop and post a tracking report so that residents can follow actions steps that have been undertaken by Town and School departments, both as follow-up to BRTF suggestions, and also incorporating other revenue enhancing/cost reducing efforts and projects that have been undertaken in recent years.

The Town has initiated two such programs. C.A.R.E. (Cost Avoidance and Revenue Enhancements), which is a broad program featuring efforts by Town departments) and C.O.R.E. (Cooperation, Outsourcing, Regionalism and Evaluation), which is a joint program between the Town and the Sudbury Public Schools to see how systematic evaluation of service delivery and administrative operations might result in cost savings due to streamlining procedures and/or sharing staff and resources. The first year of C.O.R.E has resulted in several successes, and in the second year the Selectmen hope that the program can be expanded to include Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. Revenue Generating Progress Report and Expense Reduction Progress Report tracking sheets have been added to the Budget Review Task Force Reports web page under Reports.
