ABOUT MAWOCN
The Massachusetts Women of Color Network works to strengthen and sustain the leadership of women of color in the domestic and sexual violence movement throughout Massachusetts, while highlighting the different experiences of survivors and the need for culturally responsive communities and services.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
Kishana Osei brings more than 15 years of experience in anti-violence work, including survivor advocacy, direct services, housing advocacy, and program development. A survivor herself, Kishana brings both professional expertise and lived experience to work she describes as a source of joy, healing, and purpose.
WHAT WE WILL EXPLORE
Kishana will explore how race, gender, class, immigration status, disability, sexuality, and community reputation can shape a survivor’s experience of domestic and sexual violence and affect their ability to seek safety and support. She will also consider additional barriers faced by survivors of color.
This is a conversation for all of us. How can community members, organizations, and service providers create communities that are more culturally responsive and supportive of survivors? And how can each of us respond with understanding and compassion when someone discloses abuse?
