Halloween is for everyone.

Sudbury neighbors, in collaboration with the Town of Sudbury Commission on Disability, invite children and families to Accessible Trick-or-Treat, an inclusive Halloween tradition designed to help remove barriers that can make traditional trick-or-treating difficult for children with disabilities, food allergies, sensory needs, and other accessibility needs.

What Makes This Trick-or-Treat Accessible?

Sometimes small changes can make a big difference.

Barrier-Free Treat Stations

Treat stations are located at or near the end of participating driveways, reducing the need to navigate stairs, lawns, walkways, or other barriers. This makes treats easier to reach for children who use wheelchairs, walkers, canes, or other mobility devices.

Edible & Non-Edible Choices

Participating stations offer an edible treat bowl and a separate bowl with non-food items such as stickers, pencils, crayons, or small toys. Every effort is made to provide edible treats that are peanut- and tree-nut-free. Families should check individual food labels to determine whether a treat is appropriate for their child.

A Sensory-Conscious Environment

Participating homes are asked to avoid strobe lights and sudden, high-pitched noises that may be uncomfortable or overwhelming for some children. Pets are kept away from trick-or-treat stations.

Inclusive Communication

There is no requirement to say “trick or treat” or “thank you” to receive a treat. We recognize that children communicate in different ways. Neighbors and volunteers can also describe available treats for children with visual impairments and are encouraged to provide families with the time and space they need.

All Ages & Abilities Are Welcome

There is no age limit for participating. Children and teens with disabilities may continue to enjoy trick-or-treating beyond the age when others traditionally stop, and they are welcome here.

Plan Your Visit

What should I bring?

Bring your usual Halloween trick-or-treat gear, including a bag or bucket for treats. Costumes are welcome but not required. We also recommend bringing a flashlight, as Meadowbrook Circle and Meadowbrook Road do not have streetlights.

Where should I park?

Parking is permitted on the side of the street without a sidewalk. Please keep the sidewalk side of the street clear so that children and families have an unobstructed accessible route through the neighborhood. “No Parking” signs will be posted. Please drive slowly and watch carefully for trick-or-treaters.

Do I need to register?

No. There is no registration required. Come when it works for your family between 5:00 and 7:00 PM.

See Accessible Trick-or-Treat in Action

Accessible Trick-or-Treat began with a simple idea: Halloween can be more inclusive when a community works together to remove barriers.

Watch news coverage from a previous event to see how Sudbury neighbors, volunteers, local organizations, and families have come together to create a Halloween experience where more people can participate.
