What is the risk if the Town does not act now?

Answer

There is no exact science to determine when an on-site septic system will fail or improperly operate to contaminate groundwater resources. Many systems believed to be operating fine could be leaching partially treated wastewater into the groundwater and reaching aquifer resources if there is not adequate separation to groundwater and or located in highly permeable soils. A municipal sewer system can provide both a high level of treatment and monitoring to ensure that tomorrow’s drinking water sources are better protected. While this project is focused on protecting the environment, economic development within the commercial corridor with the ability to take advantage of potential stimulus funding are benefits of being positioned to move forward.
