Spray Schedule for Week Beginning August 5, 2019
East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project
The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project is planning to use a truck mounted aerosol sprayer to apply Sumithrin in North Reading and Sudbury during the week beginning Monday, August 5, 2019. Spraying will be done between dusk and 11:30 PM.
On Tuesday, August 6, 2019, spraying is scheduled for areas of North Reading that are located between Main St. and the Wilmington border. Spraying will also be done on streets in the vicinity of Pluff Ave., Pomeroy Rd., Francis St., Winter St. and Damon St.
On Wednesday, August 7, 2019, spraying is scheduled for areas of Sudbury that are located in the vicinity of Landham Rd., Woodside Rd., Raymond Rd., Nobscot Rd., Goodman’s Hill Rd., Old Lancaster Rd., Rice Rd., and Horse Pond Rd.
If postponed on either night, spraying will occur on Monday, August 12, 2019.
The Project uses a spray formulation that contains the pesticide product, Anvil, to control mosquitoes. Anvil contains the pesticide, sumithrin, which is a pyrethroid that is classified as slightly toxic by the EPA. Mosquito control applications of sumithrin do not pose a significant risk to people or their pets due to the low toxicity of sumithrin and the small amount used to control mosquitoes. As with any pesticide, people should minimize their exposure. If residents see a spray truck approaching, they are advised to go indoors for a few minutes while the spray dissipates. Residents are also advised to close windows. Beekeepers do not need to take any special precautions since spraying begins after dusk.
