The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project is planning to use a truck mounted aerosol sprayer to apply sumithrin in Burlington and Bedford during the week beginning August 24, 2020. Spraying will be done between sunset and 11:30 PM.

No spraying is scheduled for Monday, August 24 or Tuesday, August 25, 2020.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, spraying is scheduled for neighborhoods of Burlington that are located in the vicinity Evelyn St., Partridge Ln., Independence Dr., Elm Av., Meadowvale Av., Evergreen Av., Lantern La., and Wing Ter.

On Thursday, August 27, 2020, spraying is scheduled for neighborhoods of Bedford that are located in the vicinity of Washington St., Marion Rd., Short St., Alaska Av., Dunelm Rd., Ridge Ter., Meadowbrook Rd. and Sweeney Ridge Rd.

If postponed on any night, spraying will be rescheduled for the week beginning August 31, 2020.

The Project uses a spray formulation that contains the pesticide product, Anvil, to control mosquitoes. Anvil contains the pesticide, sumithrin, which is a pyrethroid that is classified as slightly toxic by the EPA. Mosquito control applications of sumithrin do not pose a significant risk to people or their pets due to the low toxicity of sumithrin and the small amount used to control mosquitoes. As with any pesticide, people should minimize their exposure.  If residents see a spray truck approaching, they are advised to go indoors for a few minutes while the spray dissipates. Residents are also advised to close windows. Beekeepers do not need to take any special precautions since spraying begins after sunset.
