September 11 Memorial Garden Oversight Committee – Seeking Members
The Town of Sudbury is seeking two new members to join the September 11 Memorial Garden Oversight Committee—a group dedicated to preserving the dignity, beauty, and legacy of Sudbury’s Memorial Garden.
Established in memory and to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, including Sudbury residents Cora Hidalgo Holland, Peter Morgan Goodrich, and Geoffrey Cloud, as well as the lives of airline personnel and First Responders, whose lives were tragically lost on September 11, 2001. The Memorial Garden is a place of reflection and remembrance. Featuring flowering plants, bluestone benches, and a commemorative granite center stone, the Garden stands as a living tribute to those we lost and the resilience of our community.
🌟 Committee Mission
The Oversight Committee ensures the Memorial Garden and adjacent flagpole are protected, maintained, and enhanced for future generations. Through stewardship of the September 11 Memorial Garden Trust Fund, the Committee oversees horticultural care, seasonal maintenance, commemorative planning, and community engagement.
đź› Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinating upkeep and improvements to the Garden and flagpole
- Collaborating with town departments and local organizations
- Managing budget requests and financial oversight
- Planning annual commemorations and public outreach
- Meetings are approximately 1 hour per quarter for planning
- Members share responsibility for watering/maintaining the Garden from May to October (Very Flexible!)
👥 Who Should Apply?
We welcome applicants who are interested in getting involved in community service, while providing support for Sudbury’s 9/11 families, and to all affected by that day. Sudbury residents are especially encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates may include:
- Individuals with horticultural or landscaping experience, although NO EXPERIENCE is perfectly fine!
- Family members or representatives of the three victims (at each family’s discretion)
- Residents with a strong commitment to civic engagement and historical preservation
Appointments are for three-year terms. The Committee meets quarterly and includes both voting and ex-officio members.

September 11th Memorial Garden 20th Anniversary Tribute
The September 11th Memorial Garden Oversight Committee is honored to share a short film, “September 11th Memorial Garden 20th Anniversary Tribute”, which documents how the Memorial Garden came to be and how much it has meant to Sudbury’s 9/11 families. Stuart Beeby, of Stuart Beeby Photography, generously donated his time and services to produce the video.
