Cruiser Accident
On 8-5-2009 at approximately 7:15 AM Officer Nathan Hagglund was attempting to initiate a motor vehicle stop while traveling west bound on RTE 117 with his emergency lights/siren activated. As he was passing Mary Catherine Lane a vehicle attempted to exit east bound failed to yield to the lights/siren contacting the passenger side of the cruiser. Officer Hagglund had tried to avoid the collision, unsuccessfully. Following the contact the cruiser spun 180 degrees traveling off the north side of the roadway striking a utility pole on the drivers side door. The resulting impact necessitated Officer Hagglund be extracted from the cruiser by fire personnel. He was transported to Emerson Hospital with minor injuries. The operator of the second vehicle, a Sudbury resident, was not injured and at the conclusion of the investigation the operator was cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle. Thankfully, both Officer Hagglund and the operator of the other vehicle avoided serious injury. We appreciate the assistance of witnesses who stayed to assist those involved and notify emergency personnel.
