A Newton man, Jonathan Bradley, 25, who got into a bloody struggle with a resident after breaking into his Boston Post Road home – and possibly spending the night there – was ordered held on $10,000 bail at his arraignment yesterday.

Officers went to the Boston Post Road home Tuesday at noon for a break-in. Bradley was being chased down the street by a man who was bleeding profusely from his head.

The victim, said he came home for lunch and discovered Bradley in an upstairs bathroom. The victim, a 45-year-old man, ran to a neighbor’s house and told them to call 911. He then returned and got into a scuffle with Bradley. Bradley got into the victim’s car and tried to start it, and the victim attempted to stop him and a major fight ensued. They went back and forth fighting over the keys and the victim suffered a substantial laceration to his head. Bradley then took the manโ€™s car keys and ran. When officers caught up to the two men, one of them recognized Bradley from an incident the night before.

Marlborough Police were investigating a break-in Monday on Wayside Inn Road. A witness got the license plate number, which came back to a car that had been stolen in Newton. A Sudbury officer heard the license number being broadcast on the police radio and saw the Ford Taurus crossing into town. The officer attempted to stop the car but the suspect ditched the car as soon as he saw the cruiser. Police called in a state police tracking dog, but the rain hindered the search and the suspect got away.

The police suspect that Bradley actually broke into the Boston Post Road home late Monday night and might have spent the night in the basement. Bradley likely broke into the upper portion of the house when the residents left. Police found clothes in the basement that matched those of the suspect who jumped out of the car Monday night.

Sudbury Police arrested Bradley, of 385 Lincoln Road, Newton, and charged him with breaking and entering while placing a person in fear, assault and battery, malicious destruction of property, attempted larceny of a car, unarmed robbery, providing police with a fake name and receiving stolen property.

Bradley pleaded not guilty at his Framingham District Court arraignment yesterday and was ordered held on $10,000 bail.
