250 Garden at Heritage Park
The Sudbury Garden Club has designed and installed a garden in Sudbury’s Heritage Park to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. Located in Sudbury’s historic town center, the new garden was installed in time for 2025 Independence Day celebration. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the garden at 299 Old Sudbury Road.
Process and Plants
Sudbury Garden Club member Heather Halsey designed the garden. Preparation was accomplished through a no-dig sheet mulching technique that involves layering organic materials, first with cardboard followed by 9 yards of compost and then another 9 yards of leaf mulch over the compost to smother weeds and build soil.
Sudbury Garden Club Civic Beautification members, Massachusetts Master Gardeners, and volunteers installed the following tree and shrubs in the garden:
- 1 Forest Pansy Eastern Redbud tree
- 3 Oakleaf Hydrangea Ruby Slippers
- 3 Fothergilla Gardenii
- 45 shade-loving perennials
