Travel the World at the Sudbury Day Children’s Continental Scavenger Hunt
On September 18, noon-5 PM

SUDBURY, MA: What’s the difference between Benin and Bahrain? Cambodia and Cameroon? Find out at Sudbury Day’s first-ever Continental Scavenger Hunt where children can embark on an adventure and learn about the world around us. Everyone gets a prize just for entering, and one child will receive the grand prize of an atlas and world encyclopedia courtesy of Usborne Books. With many other runner-up prizes provided by areas businesses, there are plenty of chances to win something special.

To join the search, kids pick up a scavenger hunt sheet at the Sudbury Day Information Booth on September 18. To find the answers to the ten world fact questions on each sheet, children search the country information posters displayed at the booths in The Marketplace. There are nearly 70 vendors and community organizations in The Marketplace this year that offer everything from moon bouncers and exhibits by community organizations to photos of Asia and denim clothing and accessories! Several booths are also offering free crafts for children. The Sudbury Day Information Booth will have a complete list of vendors and their corresponding country and craft information.

The Sudbury Day Festival is a celebration of the world’s many cultures that takes place on Saturday, September 18, from noon-5:00 PM in Sudbury Center (intersection of Route 27 and Concord Road). It features two stages of thrilling international performances with plenty of opportunities for audience participation, ethnic food sold by area restaurants, exhibits by community organizations, artisans, and local businesses, and loads of children’s activities and crafts. Admission is free, and people from all communities, not just Sudbury, are invited to attend.

Sudbury Day is made possible in part by a grant from the Sudbury Foundation. “The support from organizations like The Sudbury Foundation allows us to make this a unique celebration of the diversity of our friends and neighbors,” says festival organizer Abby Ward. Adds Fredericka Tanner, Executive Director of the Sudbury Foundation, “This event will help engender a spirit of community pride and belonging, which is the primary goal of our grant making.”

Additional major sponsors include BFI, Emerson Hospital, Marlborough Savings Bank, PartyRoundtheWorld.com, Shaw’s Supermarkets, Sudbury Farms, Thunder Sporting Goods, Warren Graphics, and Whole Foods Supermarkets.

The event will be held rain (indoors at the Peter Noyes Elementary School, if necessary) or shine. For additional information about the event consult local newspapers or visit sudbury.ma.us/sudburyday.
