The Town of Sudbury recognized the annual Employee of the Year this week. The honor, which is granted to a town employee who is committed to delivering outstanding public service and based on peer nominations, was awarded to Fire Captain Doug Stone.

Stone, a 33 year veteran of the Fire Department who has been serving Sudbury since 1982, was nominated by five of the firefighters on his shift.

“I’m proud to honor Captain Stone this year,” Town Manager Melissa Murphy-Rodrigues said. “The entire community has benefited from his even temperament, his compassion and his steady hand.”

The peer nominations recognized Stone for his leadership skills and noted the respect he commands from the entire department. One nominator stated that Stone “is a big reason why I look forward to work day in and day out.” Another noted that Stone is “the type of employee you are hoping gets nominated for employee of the year.”

Stone was joined at the award ceremony by his fellow fire fighters, his wife Barbara and children Sarah and Michael and his parents, as well as many Town employees and members of the Board of Selectmen.

“Captain Douglas Stone is a dedicated member of the Sudbury Fire Department,” said Chief William Miles. “Our residents are well served by his skills in all types of emergency situations.”

Thank you Captain Doug Stone for your commitment to Sudbury.
