Free general public visiting. USS Constitution, the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat, actively defended sea lanes against global threats from 1797 to 1855. Now a featured destination on Boston's Freedom Trail, Constitution and her crew of U.S. Navy Sailors offer community outreach and education about the ship's history and the importance of naval seapower to more than 500,000 visitors each year. This is the last summer you can see Old Ironsides pier side until 2018, as she is scheduled to enter a three-year dry dock availability in early 2015 for restoration work in Charlestown Navy Yard.

Commissioned on June 8, 1996; she is able to carry more than 400 combat-ready Marines, approximately 40 vehicles and 40,000 cubic feet of cargo and equipment, which can be transported by both helicopter and landing craft. The 16,400-ton ship is 609 feet long and 84 feet wide, has a top speed in excess of 20 knots.
