We are planning a special combined meeting of the Sudbury CERT and MRC Teams on Wed., March 5, from 7pm – 9 pm at the Senior Center in preparation for a Table Top Drill at our April 2, Meeting.

Capt. Tim Choate of the SFD will be leading us in an analysis of the CERT & MRC to identify our current strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of an organization (SWOT). This will help to organize a specific drill that will increase our team's competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities).

Background: As you know, our CERT has focused its recent activities on our Shelter Operations. We would also like to prepare for other emergency events that the Sudbury Fire Dept. may request from us. For example, during the 2010 Cavicchio Greenhouse Farm fire, the SFD was considering the potential to order an evacuation of the nearby residences. As the Fire Dept. was quite busy with the Fire, the CERT and MRC could have potentially been activated to assist with the door to door notice of an evacuation (which could include residents with special medical needs). The March 5th, Meeting will help us plan for a quality table top drill.

What Is a Tabletop Exercise?
Tabletop exercises are table-based activities typically held in an informal setting and presented by the Facilitator. There is no hands-on practice or field work. This type of exercise is intended to generate discussion of various issues regarding a hypothetical, simulated emergency. Tabletops can be used to enhance general awareness, validate plans and procedures, rehearse concepts, and/or assess the types of systems needed to guide the prevention of, protection from, mitigation of, response to, and recovery from a defined incident. Please try to attend this important meeting (RSVP) and as always, feel free to invite any of your neighbors to participate. Hope to see you on March 5th!
