Sudbury’s Affordable Housing reaches 4.59%

Sudbury’s Affordable Housing increased to 4.59% or by 38 units in January – in both homeownership and rental housing. This represents an increase from 3.91% (or 0.68%) from the June 2006 recorded inventory and includes the additional 2 homeownership units developed on Snowberry Lane, and 36 rental units in Orchard Hill. [Since Orchard Hill is a rental development all its units “count” towards the state’s inventory.]
The percentage of affordable housing is tracked and recorded by the State through the Subsidized Housing Inventory (SHI). The SHI is used to measure a community’s stock of low-or moderate-income housing for the purposes of M.G.L. Chapter 40B, the Comprehensive Permit Law. It is based on the number of certified affordable units as a percentage of the 2000 total housing inventory (5,582 units for Sudbury).
Sudbury’s affordable housing consists of both rental and homeownership units, family and senior housing alike as listed in the Affordable and Market Discount Housing in Sudbury document, published by the Community Housing Office, which is dedicated to increasing the affordable housing in Sudbury through a variety of programs.
