Mosquito spraying planned for North Reading

The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project is planning to use a truck mounted aerosol sprayer to apply Sumithrin in North Reading. Spraying will be done between sunset and 9:00 PM.

On Monday, September 30, 2019, spraying is scheduled for areas of North Reading that are located in the vicinity of Cold Springs Rd., Linwood Av., Jill Cir., Southwick Rd., Nutter Rd., Eames St and Mill St.

If spraying on Monday is postponed, it will be rescheduled for the next available day, starting with Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Spraying won’t occur during rain or if temperatures fall below 50 degrees.

The Project sprays for mosquitoes using the pesticide, Sumithrin, in a product called Anvil.  Sumithrin is a pyrethroid that is classified as slightly toxic by the EPA. Mosquito control applications of Sumithrin do not pose a significant risk to people or their pets due to the low toxicity of Sumithrin and the small amount used to control mosquitoes. As with any pesticide, people should minimize exposure. If residents see a spray truck approaching, they are advised to go indoors for a couple of minutes while the spray dissipates. Residents are also advised to close windows. Beekeepers do not need to take any special precautions since spraying begins after dusk.

The weekly spray schedule can be found on the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project website at https://sudbury.ma.us/emmcp/. If residents have any questions related to the spraying or any questions on mosquitoes, call the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project at 781-899-5730.
