The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project is planning to use a truck mounted aerosol sprayer to apply Sumithrin in Bedford, Weston and Wayland during the week beginning Monday, September 16, 2019. Spraying will be done between dusk and midnight.

_______________

On Monday, September 16, 2019, spraying is scheduled for all areas of Bedford.

If spraying is postponed, it will be rescheduled for Wednesday, September 18, 2019.

_______________

On Tuesday, September 17, 2019, spraying is scheduled for neighborhoods of Weston that are located north of the Boston Post Rd. including streets in the vicinity of Meriam St., Conant Rd., Church St., Kings Grant Rd., Montvale Rd. and Lexington St and Rolling Ln.

If postponed, spraying will occur on Thursday, September 19, 2019.

Also on Tuesday, September, 17, 2019, spraying is scheduled for the entire town of Wayland. If all of the streets aren’t completed on Tuesday, spraying will resume on Wednesday.

_______________

The Project uses a spray formulation that contains the pesticide product, Anvil, to control mosquitoes. Anvil contains the pesticide, sumithrin, which is a pyrethroid that is classified as slightly toxic by the EPA. Mosquito control applications of sumithrin do not pose a significant risk to people or their pets due to the low toxicity of sumithrin and the small amount used to control mosquitoes. As with any pesticide, people should minimize their exposure.  If residents see a spray truck approaching, they are advised to go indoors for a few minutes while the spray dissipates. Residents are also advised to close windows. Beekeepers do not need to take any special precautions since spraying begins after dusk.
