East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project

The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project is planning to use a truck mounted aerosol sprayer to apply sumithrin in Sudbury, North Reading, Bedford and Burlington during the week beginning Monday, June 29, 2020. Spraying will be done between dusk and 11:30 PM.

On Monday, June 29, 2020, spraying is scheduled for areas of Sudbury that are located in the vicinity of Landham Rd., Woodside Rd., Raymond Rd., Nobscot Rd., Goodman’s Hill Rd., Old Lancaster Rd., Rice Rd., Horse Pond Rd., Codjer Ln. and Tall Pine Dr.

On Tuesday, June 30, 2020, spraying is scheduled for areas of North Reading that are located near Gloria Ln., Park St., Winter St., Birch Rd., Viewcrest Rd. and Grant St.

On Wednesday, July 1, 2020, spraying is scheduled for areas of Bedford that are located in the vicinity of Concord Rd., Davis Rd., Carlisle Rd., North Rd., Wildwood Dr. and Gould Rd.

On Thursday, July 2, 2020, spraying is scheduled for areas of Burlington that are located in the vicinity of Mill St., Locust St., Peach Orchard Rd., Keans Rd. and Hampden Av.

If postponed on any of the nights, spraying will be rescheduled for the week beginning July 6, 2020.

The Project uses a spray formulation that contains the pesticide product, Anvil, to control mosquitoes. Anvil contains the pesticide, sumithrin, which is a pyrethroid that is classified as slightly toxic by the EPA. Mosquito control applications of sumithrin do not pose a significant risk to people or their pets due to the low toxicity of sumithrin and the small amount used to control mosquitoes. As with any pesticide, people should minimize their exposure.  If residents see a spray truck approaching, they are advised to go indoors for a few minutes while the spray dissipates. Residents are also advised to close windows. Beekeepers do not need to take any special precautions since spraying begins after dusk.
