SolarFlair Energy, Inc. and New England Solar Hot Water have been selected as the installers for Wayland, Lincoln and Sudbury’s Solarize Mass Plus 2017. This Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) program offers residents and businesses preselected solar photovoltaic and domestic hot water systems and options at lower costs.

Residents and small businesses are invited to join representatives from SolarFlair and New England Solar Hot Water, and the towns’ volunteers at “Meet the Installers” sessions on Tuesday, July 25, 7:00 p.m. in the Wayland High School Auditorium, on Wednesday, July 26, 7:00 p.m. at the Goodnow Library, Sudbury or on Saturday, July 29, 4 p.m. at Bemis Hall in Lincoln. Residents from all towns are welcome at each. There they can learn if their homes or businesses are eligible for solar electricity and solar water heating, about financing and incentives, and how to sign up for a no-cost assessment by the installers.

The Solarize LSW team received more than twenty installer proposals for this program. Proposals were reviewed by MassCEC, representatives of the towns’ energy committees and volunteers, and municipal representatives. Selection criteria included installer experience, locality, product and systems quality, equipment and installation warranties, and pricing.

This is the communities’ second round participating in Solarize Mass. In 2012, Solarize LSW resulted in the installation of 137 solar PV systems (1281 kW capacity). This year’s Solarize Mass Plus adds a solar thermal domestic hot water system option. Unlike solar photovoltaic, which converts sunlight to electricity, a solar thermal hot water system transfers solar energy directly to a hot water tank in your home. This technology can be more forgiving of shadier rooftops.

In addition to the usual financing structures (leasing and power purchase), the program will also promote direct purchases for PV as part of MassCEC’s Mass Solar Loan Program and no-interest loans for solar thermal systems from Mass Save’s Heat Loan program. Moreover, it will seek to include condominium owners and non-profits.
