A water sample was collected at Willis Lake Monday August 3, 2015. Laboratory analysis showed cyanobacteria levels below the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s guideline levels. According to MDPH guidelines, samples collected a week apart with levels below the guidelines are required before the advisory can be rescinded. The result above is the second low sample, so the advisory has been rescinded.

Sudbury Board of Health will periodically monitor the lake for algae blooms. Residents are advised to notify the Board of Health or the Conservation Commission if unusual blooms are noticed.

The Board of Health and Conservation Commission encourages the public to experience Sudbury’s extraordinary natural environment. The recent advisory at Willis Lake should not discourage the public from appreciating the trails and waterways throughout Town. Frequent hand washing can significantly minimize the risk of exposure to all pathogenic bacteria. The best way to prevent disease is to take precautions when spending time outdoors to reduce your risk of exposure. Time outdoors improves the wellbeing of all residents. Remember to follow precautions where you live, work or play to stay safe.
