FAQs: Redevelopment of Single-Family Homes
The Sudbury Housing Authority is proposing to redevelop four single-family homes it owns in the Pine Lakes area into four duplexes. This proposal is very much in the planning stages, as the SHA has yet to hire an architect to determine what the homes will look like when completed. The SHA had a preliminary feasibility study done and has applied for and received a grant of $1,200,000 from the State’s Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC). It has retained a development consultant and attorney to assist in this lengthy process.
While initial indications are positive and merit further exploration, whether duplexes will fit harmoniously on the specific sites we have identified is a question yet to be answered. Preliminary engineering studies indicate that all four lots are physically capable of accommodating the demands of two-family homes. The next step is to engage an architect and see what that work yields. We plan to do that in an open and accessible manner and are enthusiastic about working with the neighborhood as we proceed.
In 2012, the SHA completed the years-long process of converting four other single-family homes into duplexes, including an investment by the Town of CPA funds. The SHA is confident that this current endeavor will be equally successful.
The SHA respects the opinions of the Pine Lakes residents and other community members and appreciates their support for affordable housing and our current residents. In a spirit of constructive and open dialogue, the SHA is posting answers to questions it has received from some neighbors. It is our intention and hope to continue the dialogue and update this document as we explore additional housing options. If you have any questions, please send them to Sudbury Housing Authority: info@sudburyha.org.
