What types of volunteer responses are available?

Answer

Here is a list of some of the frequent town responses that MRC volunteers help with. Volunteers do not have to participate in all of these listed below.

1) Flu Clinics: Each year the town of Sudbury has several flu clinics within the town. We always need volunteers to help direct residents where to go and to help residents fill out paperwork and organize completed paperwork. We also need volunteers to help set up flu clinic signs, tables, chairs and take down when the flu clinic has ended.

2) Emergency Shelter: The town of Sudbury has an emergency shelter, located in the community center at 40 Fairbanks Road. The shelter is open during inclement weather or during a natural disaster when the Sudbury Fire Chief determines a need for the shelter. This typically occurs a few days every winter. We need volunteers to help register residents who want to use the shelter and to monitor shelter activities.

3) Community Outreach: When the board of health has determined residents that are in need of services, we use volunteers to help meet those needs. An example would be volunteers called to help deliver food to residents with the Meals on Wheels program.

4) Emergency Dispensing Site: At times the board of health has to do a mass vaccination if there is an outbreak of a virus or pass out supplies during a natural disaster. Volunteers are used to help with crowd control, paperwork, and handing out supplies to residents.

5) Town of Sudbury Fairs & Events: Similar to flu clinics, volunteers would be needed to help with crowd control, directing traffic, help operations run efficiently. An example is the town hazardous waste day. Volunteers are used to help direct traffic and crowd control. Volunteers are critical for these events to run smoothly each year.

6) Emergency Preparedness Education: Volunteers will be asked to participate in emergency preparedness free training, meetings, and may be asked to help educate fellow residents about the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and how to volunteer for Sudbury.
