On 4-15-2011 the Sudbury Police Department fielded a report for a stolen art sculpture, a bronze eight foot alligator, valued in the area of $14,000.  Our department developed intelligence through interviews of witnesses as well as field work/surveillance in the Everett/Chelsea area.  On 4-21-2011 Sudbury Detective’s developed sufficient probable cause for the issuance of a search warrant relative to a suspect vehicle identified as having been used in the conveyance of the sculpture to an Everett scrap metal recycling center.  Detective’s also had reasonable suspicion a male subject who may be operating the vehicle had stolen the sculpture.

Additionally, on 4-21-2011, Sudbury Detective’s received information the sculpture was seen in the morning on this date at the Second Street Iron and Metal, Inc. located at 285 Second Street in Everett.  Our department contacted the Everett Detective Bureau who immediately proceeded to the location on our behalf, recovering the sculpture.  Sudbury Detective’s responded to the Everett Police Department where the property was turned over to them and subsequently transported back to our department.

On 4-22-2011 at approximately 5:30 AM Sudbury Detective’s, with the assistance of the Chelsea Police Department, began surveillance on a Chelsea business where the suspect was believed to be reporting for work.  The suspect did not arrive as intelligence indicated.  Sudbury Detective’s took this opportunity to return to Second Street Iron and Metal, Inc. where additional evidence was obtained to include video surveillance of the suspect which provided sufficient probable cause to make an arrest.

Sudbury Detective’s returned to the Chelsea location, again establishing surveillance along with the Chelsea Police Department.  At approximately 11:00 AM the suspect, Collins M. Boland (23) LKA of 5 Candlewood Circle in Sudbury, MA was placed in custody for larceny over $250 and wanton destruction of property, both felonies.  Boland was transported to the Chelsea Police Department for booking, following which he will be brought to the Sudbury Police Department.  The vehicle was seized and the search warrant is currently being executed with the hope further corroborating evidence will be obtained.

Respectfully,

Sudbury Police Department
