Sudbury Police Department

Office of the Chief of Police

Circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic continue to rapidly evolve. It is imperative to keep police personnel operational in responding to emergency calls for service.  If a calling party or those present on scene are exhibiting symptoms of or similar to that of COVID-19, which can include according to the CDC fever/cough/shortness of breath https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/COVID19-symptoms.pdf, please inform the dispatch center so those responding can take appropriate precautions when assisting those in need.

As a further precautionary measure, until further notice, we are asking citizens to avoid coming into the lobby of the police station unless an emergency exists. When feasible, we will temporarily allow citizens to file reports via phone in working with an officer to facilitate the report/investigation.  If necessary, we will meet with reporting parties on a case-by-case basis at the judgement of the officer.  If you feel a situation is an emergency call 911.  If you are unsure of what the appropriate response would be please call the Sudbury Public Safety Dispatch Center at (978) 443-1042 to consult with Dispatch Personnel.  If needed, they will consult with an officer.

We are working on the logistics of our firearms licensing process. Although it is typical to have an in-person interview during the initial and/or renewal firearms licensing process, temporarily we are requesting residents email their applications as well as supporting documents at the below email.  Checks for payment and original documents can be brought in at the end of the process at the direction of the Licensing Officer.  For those filing their initial application, we would respectfully ask for you to hold off doing so unless imperative.  Please contact our Licensing Officer, Detective Michael Pope, at firearms@sudbury.ma.us or (978) 443-1042 for further instructions.

As always, we will respond to emergencies. We appreciate your cooperation.

Respectfully,

Scott Nix

Chief of Police
