Join the Town Committee which has been looking out for waterways near your home as well as throughout Sudbury!

The Sudbury Ponds and Waterways Committee (PWC) was established in May 2005 by the Sudbury Select Board. Its mission, revised in 2019, has been to advise the Select Board and other related Town Committees on the condition of the Town-owned major ponds, waterways and tributaries. Sudbury is fortunate to have many bodies of water, including several miles of Hop Brook Ponds and Streams throughout Sudbury.

The Committee has several Responsibilities for which members can volunteer such as monitoring the water quality and wildlife to provide a collected database for future actions, including remediation strategies where necessary. Raising public awareness and support by educating the citizens about the water problems and solutions is also a major objective.

Past projects have included working with the Hop Brook Protection Association and the Conservation Commission on identifying problems in the waterways; helping with Algae and Water Chestnut harvesting; sponsoring a Rubber Duck race at the Grist Mill during Rivers Weekend in June, and encouraging residents to maintain records of the conditions of the waterways in their neighborhoods.

The Select Board and the Conservation Commission appoint liaisons to the PWC. In addition, other Town Boards are welcome to appoint representatives to the PWC. Members are appointed for 3-year terms. Meeting dates and times are flexible, currently taking place via Zoom.

If you have an interest in preserving and protecting the Town’s valuable waterways and continue the work of the PWC, please submit a Application for Appointment by Monday, February 28, 2022.
